Contract discussions between the Cleveland Browns and free agent Running Back Ben Tate found the parties close to a deal, but hung up over the guaranteed dollars in the final deal.
Tate has long been rumored to be the Browns prime free agency target, going back to before Mike Lombardi was fired. While rumors cooled when the front office turned over, Tate is considered to be a logical fit for a Kyle Shanahan offensive system.
The Browns and Tate are expected to resume negotiations at some point in the next day or so.

Multiple sources have now confirmed that Tate is still in Berea, and talks are expected to resume this morning.
As this is likely Ben Tate only shot to cash in given Running Backs short NFL shelf life, the guaranteed money in his contract is a sticky point. The Browns should have the means to get a deal done however, and they need serious help with their anemic run game.

It looks like we’re heading into the final stretch of Tate Gate, and hopefully it ends in a deal.
Tate had some fun last night, tweeting out a picture of the Terminal Tower.
